FAIR VS. EQUAL – FAMILY DYNAMICS – DIVIDING AN ESTATE

MICHAEL H. FLYNN, JD, PhD AND RONNIE C. MCCLURE, PhD, CPA

SPONSORED BY DALLAS WOMEN’S FOUNDATION

This presentation will offer a brief summary of some of the major considerations regarding family dynamics with which a planner should be familiar and will pose a number of questions the planner must be able to answer before he or she makes estate planning recommendations or begins drafting documents. Said another way, the presentation will discuss psychological and emotional constraints to transferring family wealth given the wide range of technical alternatives available to the planner and the client family.  Michael H. Flynn, JD, PhD, is a licensed psychologist and practicing attorney in Fort Worth, Texas. After 27 years in independent practice as a clinical psychologist, he became licensed as an attorney, as well. For the past two decades, Dr. Flynn has conducted psychological evaluations and expert testimony for litigants, defendants, and agencies in matters of disputed custody, criminal defense and competency, personal injury, employment disputes and testamentary capacity.  Ronnie C. McClure, PhD, CPA has worked in the individual, family, corporate, partnership, trust, and non-profit sectors of tax law for more than thirty years. He specializes in family, estate, and charitable gift financial and tax planning. He is a leading family consultant in private practice in Lewisville, Texas, and founded SeekingNorth, LLC, to combine his rich technical background with his skills as a mediator and family counselor to provide relationship-based transgenerational wealth transfer consultation to high net worth families.
